It has been over a month since I received the official offer from the UoL/LSE to join their ranks as an external student and now I spend couple of hours studying every day. I decided to distribute my studies into a four year period. The plan is below.
‘F’ marks a full unit, ‘H’ is for a half unit, numbers at the beginning are unit codes, numbers in parentheses indicate prerequisites (if any).
- Year One:
- 05A - Mathematics I (H)
- 96 - Economic history in the 20th century (F)
- Year Two
- 05B - Mathematics II (H)
- 04A - Statistics I (H)
- 04B - Statistics II (H)
- 02 - Introduction to economics (F)
- Year Three
- 66 Microeconomics (02 + 05A) (F)
- 65 Macroeconomics (02 + 05A) (F)
- 116 Abstract mathematics (05A + 05B) (F)
- 117 Advanced calculus (05A + 05B) (H)
- 118 Advanced linear algebra (05A + 05B) (H)
- Year Four
- 120 Mathematical economics (05A + 05B + 66) (F)
- 40 Game theory (05A + 05B) (H)
- 42 Optimization theory (116) (H)
- 133 Advanced statistics: distribution theory (04A + 04B) (H)
- 134 Advanced statistics: statistical inference (04A + 04B) (H)
- 26 International political economy (02) (F)
What is apparent is that I want to start without rushing. I have to regain proficiency with basic mathematics to be able to move to more advanced units with high level of confidence. This is why I plan to spend two years on foundation units only. Now all I need is to stick to the plan.
“Economics of Plenty” will see some notes taken during this period. I want to use the blog as my place to gather and express thoughts about subjects I will be studying at the moment. Please, forgive me if you find them boring as they will probably involve some math and observations taken out of context.

Gosh, I will have to study math to keep up with you. :->
If I understand correctly, this is the second university course you are attending, after graduating in Cracov?
Well… sort of
I have not graduated. At some point, due to many reasons, personal and external, I decided to do something for my wallet and actually become self-dependent. The fact that I have found out about the UoL External System contributed greatly to this decision. I started to prepare almost two years ago. I focused on getting the CAE and earning some money to be sure that I could pay for my studies. After passing the exam I have made my application for a place as an external student.
It was really an accident that I found their offer. One day, I was checking websites of foreign colleges and universities with good reputation in social sciences and I did it just for fun. I stumbled upon the External Study part of the LSE’s web page, started to read about it and, well, this is the whole story.
Still do not know why you want to keep up with me anyway. I will never become a lawyer. BTW, law degrees are also available. Check them!

I do not think they will register you for this year’s exams. It is too late. However you can apply now, start studying in October and take your first exams next year. For more details go to this address:
